1% for the Planet (1%) is a global network of thousands of organizations – now including Council Fire – working together to support people and the planet through the donation of one percent of annual gross revenue to their choice of over 6,300 registered beneficiaries across 112 countries. The organization, founded by Patagonia’s Yvon Chouinard and Blue Ribbon Flies’ Craig Matthews, mobilizes businesses to look beyond the traditional financial bottom line through intentional, organized, and partnership-based philanthropy which has been proven to produce greater on-the-ground impacts.
Of 334 million businesses worldwide, fewer than 300 have achieved both B Corp certification and committed to 1% membership. That puts Council Fire on the front lines of this movement alongside a small number of other businesses operating at the intersection of both accountability mechanisms and demonstrates our commitment to not only guide our clients on their sustainability journey but to lead by example through our own corporate behavior.
Joining 1% aligns with our purpose-driven identity and is one more way that we are using our business as a force for good and living up to our foundational commitment of driving positive economic, environmental, and social impact for our stakeholders. Our history is already marked by extensive pro bono and volunteer efforts in support of a more sustainable future and our 1% membership will enable us to further engage with beneficiary organizations producing game-changing results for our environment.
