DHL Launches Suite of Decarbonization Shipping Services

In This Article

DHL Global Forwarding launches GoGreen Plus to deliver scalable emissions reductions, including a 10% flat-rate option and premium SAF solutions.

DHL Launches Suite of Decarbonization Shipping Services

DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight division of logistics leader DHL Group, has introduced its innovative GoGreen Plus Portfolio. This suite of decarbonization-focused shipping services aims to address the growing demand for more sustainable logistics solutions, offering businesses practical and scalable options to reduce carbon emissions in their supply chains.

A New Approach to Emissions Reduction

A standout offering within the GoGreen Plus Portfolio is GoGreen Plus Base, which provides shippers with a guaranteed 10% reduction in emissions for all eligible shipments. Available at a fixed flat rate, this service applies across all markets, shipment types, and routes, regardless of origin or destination, making it accessible to businesses of all sizes.

Kathrin Brost, Vice President Global Head of GoGreen Program at DHL Global Forwarding, emphasized the accessibility of the solution, stating: "You don’t need to invest millions to make a difference. Any business can start small, with just a few extra Euros per shipment and without additional effort. This is a major step forward toward enabling more sustainable supply chains at scale."

Tailored Solutions for Greater Impact

In addition to the entry-level GoGreen Plus Base, DHL has launched two premium services designed for higher emissions reductions and tailored solutions. GoGreen Plus Premium offers shippers the opportunity to achieve up to 85% emissions reduction through book-and-claim solutions, priced at lane level. Meanwhile, GoGreen Plus Select provides flexible, customizable decarbonization options for larger customers, allowing emission reduction levels to be tailored to specific supply chains.

These services utilize carbon "insetting", a method that replaces traditional fossil fuels with sustainable fuels or clean technologies, such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This is implemented using a book-and-claim approach, where sustainable fuel use is allocated based on verified claims, enabling significant emissions reductions without the need for direct operational changes.

Supporting Sustainable Supply Chains

DHL's rollout of the GoGreen Plus Portfolio aligns with its broader sustainability roadmap, originally launched in 2021. The roadmap includes ambitious goals such as achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and utilizing 30% sustainable fuels by 2030. Amanda Rasmussen, Chief Commercial Officer at DHL Global Forwarding, reiterated the company’s commitment to driving change in logistics: "We are proud to introduce solutions that truly change what customers can expect from emission reduced logistics."

By introducing these forward-looking services, DHL is addressing the increasing demand for environmental responsibility in global supply chains. The GoGreen Plus Portfolio offers businesses tangible ways to reduce their carbon footprint, furthering the industry’s shift toward more sustainable transportation practices.
